Rubio Says Israeli Plan to Control 70% of Gaza Is Not Part of US Plan
Speaking during testimony before a House committee, Rubio said, “We have a plan. It doesn’t call for that,” when questioned about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s directive for the military to extend its territorial control in Gaza.
He reiterated that position when pressed further, stating: “He made that statement, but that’s not part of this plan,” according to reports.
Rubio’s remarks came amid congressional scrutiny of US policy on Gaza, with lawmakers raising concerns about the humanitarian situation and the implementation of the administration’s broader 20-point peace proposal.
According to reports, the US plan focuses on ending Hamas governance in Gaza and establishing an alternative administrative framework supported by international partners, rather than endorsing expanded Israeli territorial control.
The comments highlight a policy distinction between Washington’s stated post-war framework and Israeli military objectives, as reported during the hearing.
The testimony comes amid continued conflict-related reporting from Gaza, where humanitarian conditions remain severe and violence has persisted despite declared ceasefire arrangements.
