US Threatens Visa Revocations for Palestinian UN Delegation

(MENAFN) The United States has allegedly warned that it may revoke visas for members of the Palestinian delegation to the United Nations if Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour does not withdraw his candidacy for one of the vice president positions of the UN General Assembly, according to reports.

Based on a State Department cable dated May 19, as cited in reports, US diplomats stationed in Jerusalem were reportedly instructed to urge Palestinian officials to abandon Mansour’s nomination. If they refused, they could face consequences that include possible visa cancellations.

The same cable reportedly characterized Mansour as someone with “a history of accusing Israel of genocide” and argued that his nomination “fuels tension” and runs counter to US President Donald Trump’s “peace” initiative for Gaza.

It also reportedly stated: “A bully pulpit for Mansour would not improve the lives of Palestinians and would significantly damage US relations with the PA (Palestinian Authority). Congress will take it extremely seriously,”

A US State Department spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, citing “visa record confidentiality.”
