During a Tuesday interview with a US-based news outlet, Trump was questioned about fresh security cabinet actions concerning the disputed territory. While avoiding detailed commentary on the specific measures, he stated unequivocally: "I am against annexation."
"We have enough things to think about now. We don't need to be dealing with the West Bank," Trump added, signaling reluctance to engage with the contentious issue.
The remarks follow Sunday's decision by Israel's security cabinet to dismantle a law prohibiting Palestinian land sales to Jewish buyers in the West Bank, unseal property ownership documentation, and shift construction permit powers in a Hebron settlement area from Palestinian municipal control to Israel's civil administration.
Additional provisions extend Israeli regulatory authority into zones designated as Area A and Area B, citing purported infractions involving unauthorized building, water management concerns, and damage to archaeological and environmental locations.
Israeli settlement expansion has accelerated dramatically, with governmental reviews encompassing approximately 50,000 housing units across the West Bank over three years. Since the Hamas conflict erupted in October 2023, authorities have seized 60,000 dunams—equivalent to 14,826 acres—of territory.
