Italy Pledges Commitment to Ending Israeli Hostilities in Gaza
(MENAFN) Italy's Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, reiterated his country's unwavering commitment to halting Israel's military operations in Gaza at the earliest opportunity.
In a statement issued by Italy's Foreign Ministry, Tajani declared, "First 60-day ceasefire cannot be missed," emphasizing the urgency after speaking with his counterparts in Qatar, Egypt, and Canada.
"The mediation of the US, Egypt, and Qatar must be successful. Italy will do what is necessary in the G7 and the EU to support it," Tajani added, according to media.
He further stressed, "The possibility of a first 60-day ceasefire is a decisive step that cannot be missed.”
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump revealed that Israel had agreed to "the necessary conditions" for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and called on Hamas to accept the offer.
Tajani reiterated the key conditions for peace, stating, "Attacks involving Palestinian civilians must be stopped, Israeli hostages must be freed, a ceasefire must be consolidated and the (Gaza) Strip reopened to aid."
Despite global appeals for a ceasefire, Israel's military has continued its assault on Gaza, claiming the lives of over 57,000 Palestinians—many of whom are women and children—since October 2023.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict.
Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the region.
